This whole blogging thing. It's like a commitment. (Looked up a bunch of quotes on commitment....heart pounding here.) Kind of like when I committed to the whole exercise thing. It's summer, who wants to make commitments? However, I miss being able to look back on funny things, trips, tender moments, etc. My journal on the web. So maybe I will get back on this wagon, and start rollin'!Green Acreshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15468032848229651828noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8505826690269877113.post-89316940999203491922010-01-19T22:20:00.000-08:002010-01-20T00:59:58.041-08:00Florida forgotten photos... Don't give up on me!! :)Green Acreshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15468032848229651828noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8505826690269877113.post-27200773892872755032009-07-26T09:33:00.000-07:002009-07-26T09:41:34.681-07:00Magic Kingdom & Hollywood StudiosContinuation of Florida....I'm a slacker. This will be short, starting to forget details. Magic Kingdom, just means more walking to see the same thing at Disneyland. We didn't think it was as cute as Disneyland, but Kimber did find an Alice tea set! We loved Hollywood Studios, and went two days there. Our favorite thing was the Aerosmith ride! Can't remember how many times we went on. It's a great roller coaster with Aerosmiths music blasting. There is also an American Idol show we loved. When you go to Hollywood studios you can sign up to audition, they spend all day selecting the best. That night they have three showings. The winner gets a "golden ticket" to perform in front of Simon, Paula, and Randy. I was amazed at the one girl that won, and won't be surprised to see her in the next season. Other than some rain storms, and humid heat, it was great!Green Acreshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15468032848229651828noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8505826690269877113.post-77824287928653646152009-07-26T08:51:00.000-07:002009-07-26T09:32:29.931-07:00

Green Acreshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15468032848229651828noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8505826690269877113.post-54609948511125103372009-06-29T09:11:00.001-07:002009-06-29T09:43:45.352-07:00Daytona BeachWow! We decided for vacation this year we would check out Florida. Mark was really getting into the planning of the trip, so I let him. Hmmm. He did pretty good, however, the first day I was starting to get scared, also a little annoyed. We had a great flight, except for the odors that were abundant. Someone in front of the girls needed Beano. We had a three hour layover somewhere like Michigan...is that even on the way?! (No wonder the flight was cheap.)Oh well, the girls had cameras, they took pictures of the art in the bathroom, of a tiled cow. Also each other's eyeballs. ? We did a little airport shopping, eating, yuck. When we finally got to Orlanda, the rental car place handed us the keys to the mid sized rental...PT CRUISER? What the H is that? Seriously? Mark was fine, and was walking away, when I got a little pushy with the place. I had him look at our girls, & luggage. He upgraded us to a Pimped Out *RED Chrysler 300. Wow, low rider. That thing picks up more crap than a street sweeper. Comfy though,& luggage room. Then the car ride, to Daytona, where our first hotel was. We were ready for bed, so we could hit the beach first thing. We got up, dressed for the beach, had the sunscreen and floaties, life was good....until Mark mentioned NASCAR! He had a plan we were unaware of, a NASCAR tour. The girls asked what is Nascar. We did the whole tour of the track, simulater ride, etc. I mostly people watched people with mullets, and sleeveless shirts. Thinking "kind of trashy". Then I remembered how dressed up we were...for the beach! Oh well, had a coke, and enjoyed. Mark really needed to bring along a nephew to appreciate it. We did finally hit the beach. It was great...wondered why it was so cheap to park. We now know its famous for shark attacks. We also had to hit a few stores, where we bought the sexy mullet for Mark, just so we could fit in a little bit better. (Really wished I would have bought the gold teeth, and swimsuit cover up dang it!) Oh, and they sell pork rinds or rines, dependeing who you are EVERYWHERE! They even have recipes for pork rind pancakes. After we had a great eye opening experience, of another culture, we headed to Orlando to get checked into the Marriot Village. (We love Marriott, usually so clean.) Mark and the girls went in to get the hotel key.... the lady was so kind, she showed them a map of the pools, and wanted him to be aware that it was Orlandos GAY DAYS that week, and maybe we wouldn't want our girls to go to a certain pool, because it was reserved for the lesbian parties. WOW! Back to the *RED, that is the new color of Gay Pride.

Green Acreshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15468032848229651828noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8505826690269877113.post-83065294574572621702009-06-23T23:25:00.000-07:002009-06-23T23:26:29.004-07:00Russ & Julie and Cute Family's Visit To Green Acres

Green Acreshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15468032848229651828noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8505826690269877113.post-9249216364904147782009-06-21T21:13:00.001-07:002009-06-21T21:13:58.632-07:00

Green Acreshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15468032848229651828noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8505826690269877113.post-48612118973441088012009-06-19T09:24:00.000-07:002009-06-19T09:49:38.730-07:00Shannan(This is the talk that Russ and I gave at Shannan's funeral. I'm putting it on here for those that wanted to be there, but were unable to attend.)

Shannan- What a name! We have taken the letters of her name, and would like to share a few stories to celebrate Shannan’s childhood.

S for Strong- Shannan was strong, not just physically, but she had a strong willed personality too. Growing up in Winslow, she didn’t really get into the girly stuff, she loved competition. We would walk to the pool, barefoot, with our towels. She had this way of rolling the towels up tight, easier to carry, who would have thought of that being a competition? (Which was silly anyway, because the cement would get so hot on our bare feet we would unroll them and stand there for a minute. ) Swimming, diving, and dunking were all a competition. She was always up to a challenge, which was good because in order for us to swim in the deep end we had to swim across the pool, seems like the life guards did this to us daily, maybe my parents were paying them to wear us out. Shannan was so strong, that one time, she was probably 9 or 10 yrs old, she beat up the neighborhood bully in our front yard. (my parents were so proud, they were peeking out of the living room window) We played many kickball games with the other neighbor kids. It would get so hot, I would want to be done, but not Shannan, not until she won. Shannan was also strong willed, I remember when my mom or dad would tell her to do something, she would always add “but I can’t because” . My parents started saying “no Buts!” before giving her a job to do.

H for Happy- Shannan was happy growing up. Her laugh was unique, just as her smile. She loved hot fudge sundaes from Dairy Queen, Italian Ice, Rice pudding, and we can’t forget the Froot Loops. She probably loved Froot Loops because she loved jungle things…like Gorillas, and monkeys. Some of you have probably even had the privilege of hearing her monkey sounds she could make. She was great at that! She loved movies and t.v. shows like Donny and Marie, Dukes of Hazard, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Beuellar’s Day Off and What about Bob. Shannan liked music, and loved to dance around the house. Saturday mornings she would hurry and get her jobs done so she could watch American Bandstand, and Soul Train…then she and Kristin would attempt to learn some new moves. She listened to the old tapes, such as Prince, Bryan Adams, Rick Springfield, Rod Stewart, Foreigner, Madonna. Of course she didn’t buy a lot of those; this was an 80’s art to make tapes! One year for Christmas we got a family stereo, and it had a tape recorder; you could actually tape a song right off the radio! Amazing. The art came when the song you’ve been wanting came on, and to be able to push the button in time to get the beginning of the song, and then to be ready to push it to stop before the D.J. came back on. Shannan was also happy when she could “Go Fast!” Whatever it was, it had to be fast. Bike riding, roller-skating, swimming, and driving, were all about the speed! If only everyone could have experienced her yellow Honda Civic hatchback. I truly believe she thought it was a race car!

A for Athletic- Shannan was definitely athletic. It was one of her gifts. It didn’t matter what sport it was, even when she got that wiffle ball set for her 10th birthday, and I still can’t learn it, she had it mastered. She played just about every sport that she could. She played volleyball, basketball, and softball in high school. And if I remember right, she didn’t get to rest much on the bench, she played hard. I think being involved in sports from a young age taught her to work hard. She worked at the Dairy Queen, graduated from dental assistant school, and worked for Dr.Turnbull, Dr.Richardson, and Dr.Pinegar. And currently was helping with “Meals on Wheels”.

N for Nervous- When Shannan was about 8, dad would have the car started, running, and he would wait for Shannan to just about get to the door, and then drive forward, not allowing her to get in. Shannan would get hysterical, and cry. She fell for it every time too. This moved up to going to the forest to cut firewood. Seems like every time dad would get “lost”. Shannan would always panic. I’m sure this had to be so much fun for dad, how could you resist? Being nervous can be a good thing, because she was a mother hen to Russell and Bethany. Shannan was the best babysitter in the neighborhood.

N for Nose Check- Goes right along with Nervous, right? Shannan was meticulous in everything she did. Highly organized. Her room was spotless growing up, and she took care of everything she owned. She was definitely a perfectionist. Her makeup was art work, her mascara could not be clumped together, or she would get a straight pen and poke between every eyelash. She would spray each section of hair with hair spray, and then curl it, and it would feather, just like Farrah Faucett’s. This leads to the famous nose check. Anywhere you went with Shannan, she would say “check my nose”, “here look up my nose, is it ok?” She would tilt her head back, and you better have really checked her nose convincingly, or you had to do it again. If you were in the car with you she would lock the doors! She also had the "Butt check". When we got to school, we checked each others butts out, make sure nothing was on them, and that they looked great. :) Afterall, during our lunch hour we would drive home to go through our routine of taking off the 501's, squirting them down with water, just the butt part, and throwing them in the dryer to shrink them back up. The "Tight Buns in 501's" was probably named after us.

A for Accidents- Shannan wasn’t accident prone; she was just fearless at times. This led to many bruises, scrapes, stitches. She was probably around 7, not sure, but she and Kristin were staying with Grandpa and Grandma Orvin in Mesa. They lived in a community with a shared pool. Shannan did a back flip of the diving board, only the back of her head hit the board. The pool started to turn red from the blood, and Grandpa took her to the clinic to receive stitches. (Kristin never could do a flip again. Ended her career.) Another time her bike hit a rock, she received stitches across her cheek. While ice skating, she was going so fast, she slipped forward on her face again, no stitches, but a lot of blood from her nose. Enough that every one had to clear the rink, so they could clean it. Probably the scariest time was when she was riding the Ramsey’s horse at a small rodeo, called a gymkhana. She was doing the barrels, this is where you ride your horse around three barrels, in a triangular form. You are competing for the fastest time, so you want the horse to go it’s fastest, without knocking over any barrels. I’m sure Shannan had the horse going full speed, and when it got to the shoots after, the horse just stopped, throwing Shannan off, onto her face once again. She was pretty bruised and beat up. But it’s ok, it was a battle wound from her speed, something to be proud of.

N for Need- A need is something that is necessary for humans to live a healthy life. We all have needs. Not all of Shannan’s needs could be met. She had struggles the last few years. What Shannan needs to know is that we are all here because we love her. Shannan needs to know we prayed for her, we all hoped she could get better. She needs to know that we love her boys, Austin and Weston, just as she does. Nothing was done against you Shannan, but for you. Shannan needs to know that we are proud of her as a daughter, granddaughter, big sister, aunt, and Mom. Shannan needs to know that we are not going to focus on her unhappy times, mistakes, or the way she died. Instead we are going to support one another, and focus on the way she lived when it was positive. Her church leaders made a great comment to our mom, “she came to church when she could”. I think that is how she lived,” when she could”. Shannan’s favorite picture is the one with Christ and little children at his feet. Shannan you need to be happy. We love you, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.Green Acreshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15468032848229651828noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8505826690269877113.post-73800005414261972172009-06-19T00:36:00.000-07:002009-06-19T09:11:28.999-07:00Sistie UglyMany of you know that my big sister passed away recently. We aren't sure why, still don't have all the toxicology results back yet. When my Grandma Sam passed away last year, I wrote her a letter on my blog. It helped me feel a bit better, because I'm just so sure that in heaven everyone is blog stalking :). So I think I'll try this for myself, I still have so much to tell her.

Dear Shannan, (only that doesn't sound like what I'd really say back in the olden days it would be hey "sistie ugly", or "buttface"- you know, sisterly love.)
Shannan as hard as we fought, we laughed even harder. Especially during church, until mom would reach over and pinch us under our arms in that tender spot. We never did like the same things, well maybe a few of the same guys, definetely the same music. We did love to swim. We also loved those "tight buns in 501's." We loved going to get Italial shaved ice, or scraping up change to buy french fries at McDonalds. What about the time we made Grandpa O so mad when we went to San Antonio, and we wanting nothing to do with going to see the Alamo? haha, that is still funny. We were kind of brats, well sort of.
I know I haven't seen you since Austin and Weston's baptism, but I was glad you came. I have a picture of us together. I did try to call many times. Why wouldn't you answer? At first I thought it was just me, that you hated me. I realize you were in a lonely place that no one could reach you. Your home teacher talked to me at your funeral. He said sometimes he came to see you, and you wouldn't answer your door, or phone. But he loved it when you did, and he said he had some great visits with you. Several people tried to call you, Ryan and Russ both contacted me reguraly to see if I had heard from you. Many people cared about you. I worried about you. I still worry. It's 2:00 am, and I'm thinking about what you want me to feel. It's just final for now, and all I haved dwelled on is memories. Shannan I wanted you a part of our lives.
Oh yeah, funny random story, remember taking that picture of my butt in my blue underwear? Yeah, uhmm, Russ thought it was his hahah! Bonus on the picture, it's made its round all though the funeral lunch, it was in your scrap book!
Remember cruising in the Datsun, yeah, sorry I wrecked that for you. Rememeber how you had to tie the hood down to drive to school? Good times.
Remember that mouse on our front porch, and you picked up a brick and killed it? Wow.Remember your fancy scwhinn bike, and how you charged me a dollar every time I used it? You must have had a buttload of cash because I used it everday that summer!
I just want you to know that no matter what people tell me, like you are at peace, or in a better place, I want to scream "how do they know?" I know how strong you are, I think you fought this one. I wanted my sister back. I miss you Shannan, I've missed you for years. I hurt for you, I hurt that at times you were so lonely. Even if you held me down, spit in my face, I love you, (it's forgiven too, because I would scratch the crap out of you, I know you've showed me scars. :) )I hope you're catching up with some relatives, (be nice to Leon, no kicking!),I miss you. Remember the stake dances, how they closed them, with the song "Sha na na na, Sha na na na, Hey Hey Hey, Goodbye." Lets end this that way. Make sure your dancing, and shaking that bootie! In front of a mirror would be the best too.
I love ya Sistie Ugly, Sincerely, the other Sistie Ugly.Green Acreshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15468032848229651828noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8505826690269877113.post-20137765148462540802009-05-30T09:38:00.000-07:002009-05-30T09:39:37.911-07:00Justine's Graduation & Party After

Green Acreshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15468032848229651828noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8505826690269877113.post-24299910967032280102009-05-30T08:08:00.001-07:002009-05-30T08:20:01.052-07:00Kimber PAAAARRRTTTAAAAYS!This last year Kimber has been a part of Production Company. It's a group 9th grade drama students, with an amazing teacher. She was able to take some trips with them, spent everyday with them, and perform in several plays. She will miss this as she is officially now a 10th grader, and will be going to High School. Last week there was a banquet, awards, great food. When her teacher gave her a trophy it was for most improved, he talked about how in 7th grade up until now she has been so shy. SHY...did he say SHY? Every parent teacher I went to as a child was torture and always the same thing "Kristin won't keep her hands to herself, Kristin won't be quiet, Kristin needs to learn to shut up and focus, Kristin disrupts the class, Kristin is spending her recess in the corner again, I had to send Kristin to the office..yada, yada, yada. So when I have these parent teacher conferences when I go I am naturally tensed up. And it's always the same thing about both girls, "Kimber is so quiet I would like to have her participate more." "Kimber always has a bright smile." "Justine is so helpful and willing to do anything I ask." Hmmm, if I didn't have battle scars to prove they were mine, I'd have to wonder!Green Acreshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15468032848229651828noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8505826690269877113.post-3444121354205834192009-05-30T08:05:00.000-07:002009-05-30T08:07:07.835-07:00Kimber went to the Taylor Swift concert!! :)

Green Acreshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15468032848229651828noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8505826690269877113.post-88354624822773316572009-05-18T06:00:00.000-07:002009-05-18T06:04:39.414-07:00Seminary GraduationLast night was Justine's seminary graduation, 4yrs baby! Yesterday, before church we asked her if she had her Bishop's interview...uhmm no. She also went to the state baseball playoffs and missed seminary the other day, so I started to wonder about her attendance. Kind of a panic, in a funny way. Mark called the Bishop's office, set up her appt. When we arrived at the Stake Center last night, I grabbed 5 programs, checked them all to see if her name was on them. It was. At the bottom, not last, but listed by wards. Our ward was last. Her last name is with a C. Only one before her. Three after. When they didn't announce her name, when they should have, a little bit of a panic, a funny panic. Because Justine is so good, this was kind of funny to me. The very LAST person they announced....Justine Christensen. Oh, and they said "Justine" not "Justin" like usual. We finished off the night with Grandma Nancy's crepes. So yummy.

Green Acreshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15468032848229651828noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8505826690269877113.post-15708354733083552972009-05-09T06:37:00.001-07:002009-05-09T06:45:03.231-07:00Prom 2009 "This is Home"Justine went to Prom, the first part of April. I'm finally posting pictures!(Give me a break, it was the same time Kimber was in Annie, I was kind of busy.) She went with Gavin, Josh, & Alexis. It was held at the Old Provo Library, gorgeous building. Maybe I haven't posted about it, is because by the time it finally got here I was exhausted. Justine is V.Pres over the senior class, which means her group was in charge, which really means moms in charge. We had to go find the Tiarras, DJ, Refreshments, etc... About two weeks ago I took Kimber to the Dr. for a sinus infection. She has been on antibiotics. Her asthma kept getting worse though, and last Friday we took her back to the Dr. (We actually took her an hour earlier than her scheduled appt. because I thought she was going to pass out. ) We didn't realize how sick she was, and yes, I felt like a total white trash mom after we were told how sick she was. She was so dehydrated that it took them 8 times to get an IV in her. Her oxygen level was also scary. (I don't remember numbers guys, sorry.) We were at the Dr. office for 4 hours, for breathing treatments, oxygen, antibiotic shot, and IV fluids. She also took 5 prednisone pills, started a z-pack. After bringing her home, I stayed on the couch with her to make sure she could breathe, we were also sent home with a little moniter for her to breathe into, to check those numbers I don't remember. I just remember she should normally be around 300, when we came home it was 160, and if it got lower I was to take her to the hospital. Around 1 am it got down to 140!! She was literally slowly going blue. I had Mark stay and sleep, he was leaving for China on Saturday. I rushed her to the hospital for a breathing treatment. After the Dr. there saw her, he wanted her admitted for treatments, and oxygen. He took some X-rays, no pneumonia, just asthma. It was pretty scary. She started feeling really cagey, all those steroids in her, and we both wanted to go home to our soft beds. She watched some movies, we tried gagging down the food they brought us, and then waited until 2 pm the next day for the dr. to check us out! We had some great laughs, Kimber felt tied down with all the tubes, and she got so mad at me for making her laugh, because her heart rate would go up, and she was sure they would never let her go home! Which had us laughing more. She is doing great now!! We had quite the sleepover. I think we both still have a hangover!

Green Acreshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15468032848229651828noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8505826690269877113.post-56344070951878445072009-04-23T22:00:00.000-07:002009-04-23T22:09:04.718-07:00Punk'd "Punk'd" ever heard of it? It was a great show hosted by Ashton K. He's such a beautiful man I must say. Anywhoo, those that thought Justine could be married, were "Punk'd"! I think we have some time for that! I didn't have a great APRIL FOOL'S DAY prank, so this was it!

Green Acreshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15468032848229651828noreply@blogger.com0
